Twenty Fun Things to do in Gladwin County

1. Go shopping! Stores range from small gift shops and antique shops, to a full-sized department store.
2. Go play Bingo. That's right, there are many chances to call 'Bingo!'
3. Dig your toes in the sand, go swimming, and enjoy sunbathing.
4. Take a sightseeing tour. Enjoy the lakes, rivers, woods, ghost towns, Amish country, and much more. Take a Fall Color Tour to see flaming trees with a deep blue background of water.
5. Get those lures ready and go fishing. You're never far away from a good fishing spot.
6. Visit Stone Cottage Gardens for a wide selection of flowers and garden supplies.
7. Discover the past! Take a self-guided cemetery tour.
8. Visit the Gladwin County Fair June 16-23, 2008!
9. Visit the Historical Museum, and see what life was like in the 1800's.
10. Take a quiet hike in the woods, along clear streams and hillsides.

14. Visit the Gladwin County District Library in Beaverton and Gladwin to read books and magazines and enjoy children's programs, and also visit the Genealogy Room in Gladwin.

Spring Mushroom Hunt

When the snow leaves the woodland area of East Michigan, a band of hunters start planning springtime trips to their favorite hunting areas--mushroom hunting areas! A favorite target of their hunting is the famous Michigan Morel mushroom, sponge-like in appearance, easy to pick and not too difficult to find. They are available throughout the East Michigan region following warm spring rains. Equipment needed includes a book on mushrooms, knife, basket, Michigan map, and local county map (both maps available at our Chamber office). No license is needed for this type of hunting. If you want to hunt on privately-owned land, though, always first ask the owner for permission. There's plenty of state and national forestlands in East Michigan, however, and all of it is open to mushroomers. Good luck, and happy hunting!
