Spring Mushroom Hunt
When the snow leaves the woodland area of East Michigan, a band of hunters start planning springtime trips to their favorite hunting areas--mushroom hunting areas!
A favorite target of their hunting is the famous Michigan Morel mushroom, sponge-like in
appearance, easy to pick and not too difficult to find. They are available throughout the East Michigan region following warm spring rains. Equipment needed includes a book on mushrooms, knife, basket, Michigan map, and local county map (both maps available at our Chamber office). No license is needed for this type of hunting. If you want to hunt on privately-owned land, though, always first ask the owner
for permission. There's plenty of state and national forestlands in East Michigan, however, and all of it is open to mushroomers. Good luck, and happy hunting!
